Whilst I might be tempted to nominate any iteration of the Bugatti Veyron as a "French favourite", I'll back pedal quite a bit and put forward the last of the Renault-Alpine exotics in the Alpine A610, often confused with its visually similar predecessor, the Renault-Alpine GTA. The A610 was the final French interpretation of a Porsche 911 and was a reasonable sports car in its own right ... the Renault association was removed for this final fling and the turbocharged V6 increased in capacity from 2.5 litres to near 3.0 litres, producing around 200kW to propel the very slippery 0.30cd coupe to a top speed of 290kph. Never a big seller in its short production run from 1991 to 1995, and only available in LHD, the rarest version of all is the 1992 Magny-Cours special edition of thirty cars built to celebrate the 1991 French GP win of the Williams-Renault F1 team ...
