For me, the 1962 Australian COTY is the EJ Premier. Affordable and stylish luxury. In the UK, the COTY would be the Cortina. Great styling and mass appeal, plus established a racing heritage. The USA COTY is the Studebaker Avanti. A luxury sporty coupe. Loewy's last masterpiece. In Japan the COTY is the Toyota Crown. It was a very visible demonstration that the Japanese car industry would be a force in the future. They came from almost nothing to the Crown in less than ten years. Europe? It has to be the FWD Taunus. Innovative and practical. As for one car for a World COTY...drum roll please......my personal choice is the Crown. It established Toyota as a serious contender on a global basis with a stylish, reliable, value for money and exportable automobile. From 1962 Toyota was on an upward trajectory.
