Nope, I was wrong. Here is an excerpt from the Gordini register found at: http://www.r8gordiniregister.com/ and I quote directly: "KMH-731 (1st registered Jan 1970) was campaigned by Bob Watson in the 1970 Victorian Rally Championship, where he and navigator, Jim McAuliffe won all 5 rounds. In 1971 the car was stripped for use in the popular rallycross series at Calder. A big valve 1296cc engine (812-00. 7297) was used initially, then a 1400cc version using 78mm Alfa Romeo pistons was built. The car was very successful especially in the slippery conditions where the excellent traction afforded by the rear engine format was an effective weapon against the much more powerful Torana GTR XU-1 of Peter Brock. On 24th January 1971, Watson recorded a 53.0 second run at the Lakeland Hillclimb. After finishing its duty as a rallycross car (replaced by a 12 Gordini) the R8 was sold to Chris Neal in April 1975. The valuable ID plates were lost forever when the body was dumped at the Sale rubbish tip in the Gippland area.
