I did mention these things in a post many years ago, because for me the odd-looking TP21 off-road vehicle made for the Swedish military back in the 1950s is a pretty cool Volvo. Built on a light truck frame with a 1930s Volvo taxicab body mated to a Mack truck-style front clip, this three-tonne wonder was used mainly as a radio truck and command vehicle. The TP21 (short for Terrang Personbil P2104) was powered by a 3.7-litre petrol inline six with a four-speed manual transmission, vacuum-operated rear diff lock and two-speed transfer case with part-time 4WD. The four door sedan-type body meant it could carry five adults in comfort across the harshest terrain. Because they were quite expensive to make, less than 1000 examples were produced, but they were so good they remained in service with the Swedish Defence Force well into the 1980s. Now highly sought-after by collectors.
