In my days at BMC, I remember when there were full page ads in the the newspapers promoting Valiant's price being virtually equal with Holden and Falcon, as this piece from Wheels in November 1968 shows. There were a lot of sales people who had been with GMH and Ford and all agreed that there was a degree of exclusivity with the earlier Valiants. They were always seen as better than the other two, particularly the up-market Regal. The consensus was that this would slow their sales rise, and they were pretty well right.
