Yes Steve, a flat-plane crankshaft (180-degree journals) in a V8 is great for making power, but kills the melodic throb of a traditional cross-plane (90 degree) crank. I remember when Repco stuck a flat-plane crank in its Repco-Holden Formula 5000 engine in 1973. It made unprecedented power (more than 500bhp) but lost that earth-shattering V8 thunder that was so addictive!
