Pic 1. In 1976, 3 years before Ford Australia built their own version RS2000, Ford put out their own Media Release with a photo of Escort race driver Bob Holden and Max Gransden, Ford Australia's Director of Sales and Marketing, standing alongside 1 of the the 25. A line of text stated that the cars "have been earmarked for sale to top racing and rallying competitors in all states" leaving no doubt as to the reasons that Ford imported them. Pic 2. The 25 lined up at the Saarlouis plant in Germany just been inspected and signed off ready to be shipped to Australia. After the use of the MK1 RS2000 Escort for touring car racing here in Australia, Ford had no option but to import 25 mk2 RS2000 Escorts from Germany to use for homologation of the new Mk2 body shape as they did not have a 2 litre in a Mk2 in 1976. Welcome the German RS2000, only 25 in Australia.
