Did you know that the 250SL is the rarest of all the “Pagoda” sports models, with less than 500 right-hand-drive cars ever built. The 250SL was a one-year interim model between the early 230SL and later but heavier280SL which was developed primarily for the US market to comply with new US safety and emissions standards. The 250SL was officially launched at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1967 and sold up until January 1968 with total production of 5,196 cars. While there are no official statistics on the number of right-hand-drive 250SLs made, it is believed that only 459 vehicles were built in RHD format due to the high cost of production. Virtually every panel forward of the doors, including the firewall, chassis members, dash and many engine parts are unique to the RHD 250SL and due to the small numbers, required costly hand assembly.
