Here's a pic of the Duke of Edinburgh chatting to the men on the A50 Cambridge assembly line when he visited Longbridge in 1955. The original offering by Farina for the mid-sized Oxbridge saloons which might be the pic you were thinking about BentleyT. These two images are from Barney Sharratt's rollicking book "Men and Motors of The Austin". The last three images are the ideas expressed in-house before Farina was approached. Thankfully, one might add. These are from Jeff Daniel's "British Leyland - The Truth about the Cars". Yes, the 1967 Pininfarina styling excercise would have been a big step and tempting for BMC, but the 1800 had only been in production a couple of years and by then, finances and Issigonis would have been against that idea. It may have been a bit too radical for British tastes of the time, but Citroën made it work for the GS four years later.
