From the BMC/Leyland Australia archives: the 1,000th car assembled in the new Car Assembly Building (CAB) in 1958 indicated that the company was off to good start with this Series 1 Austin Lancer. Five years later, a Morris Major Elite was the 100,000th. More a publicity stunt was the 5,000,001st front-wheel drive BMC car produced in the world was this Export Austin Kimberley in 1971. The Morris 850 was the first off the line in 1961. Note the uniformity of clothes worn by the blokes on the line, and ultra-thin ties sported by some of the execs.
