Thanks MarkO - he really achieved a lot in a busy life. He was one of the main organisers of the successful 1970 World Cup Rally from London to Mexico in addition to his own racing and rally successes. He was great to work for, although at times you never knew quite where you stood. He sacked me once, and then within half an hour reinstated me with a raise. He always said to me that he didn't know what he would do without the legions of Aussies and Kiwis on working holidays who came and worked in Lancaster Mews in London. He visited Australia a few times in later life, usually as a guest of the Austin-Healey Sprite Clubs who idolised him. He and his wife Caryl stayed with me in Brisbane and instead of going to car events, they were happy to spend a day in the Botanic gardens. They lived in Hawaii where he was a keen wind-surfer right up in his 80s. I've added a couple of pics of Lancaster Mews as it was in 1971 - it's all been gentrified now, and of John and Caryl when they were in Brisbane in 2000.
