Well they would have rattled like hell on cold start up Pony, if we hadn't been using high amounts of STP in our BP course. [Don't tell BP, they don't like you adding stuff to their oil]. I think I won the Australian Sprint Championship at Castlereagh in 1968, in the F1 Brabham Repco. It was straight from Bathurst with the Bathurst diff ratio still fitted, so it wasn't blisteringly quick, F1s never are really, but there were no dragsters in Oz back then. I know I had fastest run in the first round, then on the second run a gearshift guide bracket tore off the chassis. The gear change linkage was a nightmare on those things, having to go right round the engine, & in the back of the gearbox. They took hours to get set up, to get full gear selection in each gear. Get it wrong & you can strip gears, & other damage, so David said no repair here, & we went home. I have a vague recollection of getting some prize money in the mail, & a trophy. It is only vague though. I do recall doing 17.6 there in the Morgan +4 in 63 or 4, & that was reasonably quick for the day. What a different world today. Below is the Brabham at the start of a run. You can see the car has moved about a foot, & there is just a little smoke coming off the rear end, so I must have got it fairly right. Can you imagine having so many people around the thing today. I can recognise Bob Britain, Max Stahl & a few others. How many can you find?
