The other one that comes to mind was the Austin 1800 which had done the epic trip around and through Australia with Gelignite Jack Murray and Evan Green with two others. In company with a Mini DeLuxe, the two cars did the trip in the middle of Summer in late 1965, testing a new oil put out by Castrol. They were the first vehicles down the Gunbarrel Highway since it was made seven years before. When the two cars had come back, they were stripped down and checked for wear and how the oil performed. The Mini was sold off, but the 1800 was retained for a few more years, used as a hack by the Competitions Department, following rallies and races and general daily use. I think it had done about 50 or 60,000 miles when it was offered to staff. No-one wanted it, but in the end, it was bought by an apprentice, who immediately took the original DYL-090 plates off. The reason was that he could maybe sell it again, just as a high mileage car. It has since been re-discovered and is in sympathetic hands with someone who is apparently restoring it. I was tempted at the time, but bought a very similar car with only 15,000 miles on it.
