Regarding XR and XT Falcon wagons. I remember reading that their high profile appearances in the Skippy TV series (1968-1970) were part of Ford boss Bill Bourke's behind-the-scenes strategy to show Falcons thriving in rugged conditions. It was a continuation of the positive publicity generated by the XP's 70,000-mile durability trial and the XT's superb London to Sydney Marathon result. Ford supplied many vehicles across the show's 91 episodes and it was no coincidence that senior ranger Matt Hammond always drove an XR (later XT) wagon. Other Falcon wagons made guest appearances, along with different Ford offerings including F100s, Galaxies, Fairlanes etc. Bourke was also smart in avoiding any mention of Ford in each episode's closing credits like many US shows did (automobiles furnished by Chrysler Corp etc), so that it looked like Falcons were simply the preferred choice for rugged park ranger duties. It was one of the first examples of subliminal 'product placement' on Aussie commercial TV.
