The Australian Marina was to be called Cavalier and Cavana and the badges had actually been produced. Those who knew it all in the UK heard about it and decreed that our car was to be the Marina. In the Leyland theaterette, a stunned audience, including the then Managing Director listened to one of the top UK men, Jack Plane announce "in no way the new Leyland cars are to be called Cavalier or Cavana. Marina is to be the only name." Early cars from the production line had holes in the bonnet and bootlid to take the badges which were longer than Marina. There was now a spare hole which was filled with a small chrome star. Two banned badges escaped captivity and are pictured here.
