By keeping the same doors on these four cars, BMC saved a motza, even if it compromised the looks of the hatchback Maxi. Doors and door frames are the most expensive pressing on any car. In a four door car, there are at least eight complicated pressings for the doors alone, plus all the window mechanism that goes with it. Then there are the sills, frames, hinges and pillars.... The windscreen and rear windows along with the roof pressing are all common on the the 1800, 3 Litre and Kimberley, whereas, the Maxi was narrower, so the roof and screen were different.
