The 1961 Chevrolet Impala 409 which Dan Gurney drove at Silverstone to defeat the dominant Jaguar competition was subsequently sold to Australian Laurie O'Neil. Laurie used the Impala as a tow car for other racing vehicles and general road duties. Gurney's performance served as inspiration for Norm Beechey when he went looking for a car to tackle the local Jaguar competition and acquired his 1962 409.
