One of my favourite Farina models is the Lancia Flaminia, in either sedan or coupé form. When the large BMC sedans were released in 1959, I always felt the Lancia was by far better looking than the big Austin, Wolseley or Vanden Plas. There is something about the elegance, sheer style and the proportions of the Flaminia that make the BMC vehicle look stodgy and plain. The dimensions of all the cars are similar, with the exception of the height - an A99 is about 6 cms higher. Also, I think the rear end treatment of the BMC gave it a hunched look, whereas the Lancia has a much smoother appearance. I wonder how much the originals were changed by BMC after they came off the drawing board.
