Hi Imperative, yes 8,000 RPM is impressive, and I was lucky enough to actually see the tacho in Jim's Stang wind round to that point, thanks to his in-car-camera, when he raced at Morgan park. Sometimes that many revs only occurred due to loss of traction under power. Despite the semi-slick tyres and a tough LSD diff, 625 horsepower made the car lose traction under acceleration in second gear. With full slicks the problem would have lessened. Jim didn't actually build this engine himself this time (though he can) but it was built by a bloke who told Jim he didn't recommend exceeding the 8000 redline but the fact that it touched briefly on 9000 was proof that the engine could handle it without drama. Apparently the 363 and it's components are the best money can buy too. Jim showed me a couple of warped / twisted crankshafts in his workshop that were way beyond re-grind and were not salvageable, the damage caused by extreme over-revs and the crank being the weak link in the chain. They were NOT from Jim's car though, but from a couple of over-enthusiastic young drivers who went way past the limit, or tried to ! I have limited mechanical knowledge, but even I could see the twist in the tortured cranks. They are only good for scrap metal or a boat anchor now.
