I'm playing catch-up here ... thanks for the memories DrJohn ... and thanks too, RalphRR, for the GM prototype images ... for a 1975 Holden TX Gemini sedan was in fact my very first car, purchased privately in 1977 whilst attempting my first year of a mechanical apprenticeship at one of Perth's leading Holden dealers, City Motors (ironically having just recently closed their doors to Holden after loyal service to the brand since 1952 !!). It was the basic sedan referenced by DrJohn, missing the glorified "SL" badges, but looking pretty neat in Mandarin Red with tan vinyl trim (on fixed-back bucket seats) contrasted against the ubiquitous TX Gemini black dash and thinner-than-SL black carpeting ... an interior upgrade was easy enough in the form of a column-mounted tacho to hide the clock blank in the instrument binnacle, followed by a Pioneer KP4000 radio-cassette unit to fill the other dash blank (I had to wait another 3 years in Perth to discover what "FM Radio" was all about), genuine sheepskin covers for the front seats, and then a SL floor console courtesy of the wreckers. Externally, the Gemini looked sporty enough with its integrated semi-spoiler frontal appearance, so I procured a plastic-moulded rear 'duck' spoiler that mimicked the style of the Torana SL/R 5000 ... Aunger provided additional improvements by way of an external rear window louvre (remember them ?) and a set of their new 'Classic' multi-spoke alloy wheels shod with Bridgestone's latest RD202 steel-belted radial tyres. Being a pre-ADR27A car, I was happy enough with the engine's standard performance, but opted for a free-flow (minus resonator) exhaust from the nearby Lukey Exhausts agency ... K-mac sway bars and Gabriel three-way adjustable shock absorbers finished off my Gemini playtime, whilst I then practiced shockie settings by joining the WA Sporting Car Club and enjoying the Tuning Days use of Barbagallo Raceway (Wanneroo Park) ... I also participated in a driving course at the circuit and was for a time hopeful that the Club might adopt a Gemini road race series similar to that being conducted in Queensland ... it almost, but didn't quite, happen. It was around that same period of time that Wayne Bell and others were successfully rallying the Gemini (sedan and coupe) in competition, dressed in familiar Marlboro-HDT colours ... my Mandarin Red sedan with subtle black-out accents attracted attention at both the dealer's service department and at the track and quite a few people assumed that I was running one of Holden's experimental 2.2 litre Starfire rally engines ... as a cheeky 18-year old, I was happy enough to keep the conversation flowing whilst at the same time keeping the bonnet shut :-)
