Pony, good advice and one thing you and I have in common are the Z9 filters. Three of my cars used Z23 filters which then went out of production. So, we made up adapters to use the Z9. Just after, Z23s came back into production.... Too much oil in the 1800s resulted in the big ends failing, and of course having the gearbox in the sump wouldn't have helped matters either. Such a simple error in production nearly destroyed the car's reputation in the UK - most of the teething problems were sorted by the Australian engineers before it was launched 12 months later. When I bought my 2-year old 1800 in 1968, I was given free advice in which ones to avoid. My Mark 1 was made about three or four months after production started, and I didn't have any major problems with it, and it was driven a lot harder than the Mark II I have now.
