Interesting topic Joe and so vast when you start to think about it. I reckon there's a hard cover book required just to cover this topic alone! Three of my favourite locally developed light commercials unique to Australia are the Ford Mainline utes of the 1950s based on the Ford Customline, the Austin 1800 ute based on the 1800 sedan and Toyota Crown ute also derived from the sedan. Each of these vehicles has its own fascinating tale to tell. Australians should be very proud of what engineering marvels we achieved here with such a small population and limited resources.
