I should have known better but the EJ Holden I bought when I arrived home after 4 years in the UK. I desperately needed wheels, and this one looked and went alright for the $350 (!) I paid for it. Having no seat belts, nor mounts for them, I found the floor was full of rust, so there was not much metal left for me to attach them. Drilling holes through the pillars wasn't much fun either. Then the engine started to run on five; it turned out it needed replacing. The transplant didn't go well, as everything else rejected the engine - starter motor, generator and even the diff! After that it settled down, but doing trips from Sydney to country Victoria a few times bouncing down the rough Hume Highway was no thing of joy. The base of the windscreen used to leak and would deposit a gallon of water all over the passenger's legs doing a right turn. The wipers rusted through at the base, and the handbrake and horn never worked. The local Renault dealer gave us more for the EJ than he would have for my mum's automatic Austin 1800, so I took that over, and while that hasn't been exactly trouble free, I can just about forgive it for anything.
