Bonnet pins or a leather hold down strap were once must have "hot up" accessories. Inspiration drawn straight from the race track and even provided by Ford as factory fitment on XW and XY GT models. Many GTR and XU1 Toranas had a drill thoughtlessly put through their ID plates to fit bonnet pins. Not so great for todays Torana collectors and restorers as they try to undo all the modifications made before such things became valuable. Slapper bars and similar traction devices used to tame leaf spring rear ends have also been consigned to history. Slapper bars were commonly available from the local speed emporium or whizz up your own if you have an arc welder. Often painted yellow so that everyone noticed you were driving an awesome racing car! I know because l am guilty.
