When I drove through Eastern Europe including the Soviet Union in 1972, with a mate who was almost as silly about cars as I am, we couldn't help but think that every time we saw a Volga M24, we always thought it was an HR Holden. They were first shown to the public in 1967, but didn't go into production until about 1969. Admittedly we hadn't seen an HR up close for a couple of years, but the styling cues such as headlight treatment, wheel arches and tail treatment were very similar, and I think still are. Overall dimensions are almost the same, although the Volga has a 4 inch longer wheelbase. The previous M21 Volga had 1952 Ford Customline cues, but the later car has that GM look about it. It's not like any Opel, but there are hints of the base 1965 PC Vauxhall Cresta. The Russians could not have copied the HR, but Retro, were there other GM cars like the Chevy II/Nova which may have influenced them?
