I obviously need therapy along the line, but I found a few old licences from Vic and NSW from the early '70s. I passed my licence in 1963 - I was asked one question about what to do if I had an accident, and the bush policeman never bothered with a driving test. It cost ten shillings a year plus £1 for the test - £2/10/- all up or $5.00 in today's currency. One of the major questions in those days was how to do a right-hand turn in Melbourne over double tram tracks. This country boy had no idea what that was all about and the local cop had enough sense not to ask that one. I don't think I'd pass today's test at all. Apart from having to pass a British test in 1970, and an NSW Taxi licence test in 1976, I have held a licence for nearly 58 years...... Note the cost of a licence in the early '70s was $2 a year, a far cry from today's exorbitant charges.
