As more information on the activities of the people who handled the Morris utes come to light, the Series E 8/40 lent itself to a number of modifications. This Roadster Utility was seen in reasonable numbers after the war, one owner claiming he got 47 mpg on a 250 mile trip with a full load AND the family. Bodies were originally built by TJ Richards, but after a dispute with Nuffield, they were done by Hope in Brisbane among others. One of the Morris Oxford-based ute’s features was that it was built on a chassis, enabling coach builders to make a variety of body styles. The standard ute came with a wide box with the tray being a full 8 inches wider than the FJ Holden, even if it was 4 inches shorter. The Oxford didn’t have the power of the FJ, but it was a genuine slogger and reliability from the 1476 cc side valve was its forte. Perfect for builders who weren’t in a hurry in those more leisurely days. It was still catalogued past 1956 in the company's lineup at events like Commercial Motor Shows, and it seems few Series II Utes seem to have been sold here. One did end up in western Queensland, and it looks like it had a pretty hard life.
