Hi Guys ,I just came across your episode on the A30 and thought I might contribute. Those guys were not the only racing drivers to own an A30. I too am a proud owner of an A30 van. It started life as a delivery van for my father’s business, Ferguson Bros. at Hurstville in Sydney. It was an Austin Dealership at the time. I bought it off him when I turned 17 and drove it for probably the next 10 years. I use to take it on surfing safaris as i could stretch out in it by folding the front seats forward. Taller people did however have to lay down with their feet in the passenger parcel shelf. It also came handy when I took a chick out to the Drive-In Movies I use to turn the car around and we would lay on a mattress to view the film through the front windscreen. The girl’s parent’s didn’t mind her going out with me as they thought not much could happen in such a little car. How wrong they were. Over the years things progressed with it and I eventually fitted a 1098 Sprite motor and disc brake front end. That is the way it is today. The car rests comfortably in our garage with some other collectables. I must apologise for the photos as it was too difficult to get the “Squirty Thirty” extracted from its resting place.. Cheers John Smith.
