My first trip to New Zealand was in 1978 and the car rental company in Auckland had a fleet of Escorts, Corollas and one Austin Allegro. Naturally I took it, much to their amazement as most people preferred anything else. For a week, that little 1300 was a delight doing all the things those of their type were good at. NZ was a different place in those days. At one set of lights a 1930s Morris 8 stopped in front of me. Another one pulled up beside him, and I thought there was a rally on. Not a bit of it - one went right, the other left and they never acknowledged each other. Like two Camrys today!
