I'm no rally enthusiast, but I'm aware that the more significant Alpine road car is the Alpine A110 which did feature prominently in world rallying in the early 1970s. I don't know about any particular controversy, but the car did win some titles before being made redundant by the likes of the Lancia Stratos ... ironically, its period of success coincided with the parent company suffering dire financial circumstances, saved from oblivion by Renault. The A110 is imminently more collectable than the A610, considering it has motorsport pedigree, but it's not something you could live with as a modern-day easy driver ...
