How about the Alfa Romeo 1900 of 1950? A Twin Cam 4 cylinder with up to 115 BHP sounds impressive compared to the Holden's and Peugeot's mentioned above. The 'family car that wins races' was used for advertising in period due to the serious racing success of the model. Some also had a 5 speed gearbox as well. The Ti super could kiss 180kmh in the 1950's. Try that in the cars mentioned above! Cheers Steve
