Thanks Hasbeen. Fancy the fuel tank being your seat - and no safety bladders in those days either! Fangio and Ferrari were also carrying fuel alongside the driver in the 1950s. The maestro's D50 carried its enormous fuel load in long 'pannier' tanks mounted on each side of the car. Must have worked well enough because Fangio won the 1956 World F1 title in the D50.
