Back to work on the HQ after my recent holiday. Today I commenced restoration of the fuel tank. I thoroughly cleaned it internally a few months ago and it has been venting since. As I would be machine sanding it, I decided to eliminate any unexpected booms. My very crude method was to make a long wick which ended in the tank. I lit the wick and ran to a safe location. The large naked flame inside the tank did not cause any other combustion. I went through a few sanding discs and utilised a wire wheel for some hard to get at areas. I will give it a closer inspection in the daylight, and weather permitting spray it with a few layers of an anti-corrosive zinc rich paint. The sandblasters cleaned and powder coated the straps and brackets along with the chassis. Understandably they were not game to sandblast the fuel tank. At certain locations there were rubbery patches added between the tank and mounts. I believe that Clark's Rubber have suitable sticky media.
