I also think there's something to be said for the music of that straight six turning over happily at high speeds. My 3.0S three-speed auto never felt under-geared to me. It was fabulous devouring the Hume Highway and there were real corners back then. The Triumph 2.5Pi which it replaced had brought joys on that Sydney to Melbourne return journey, although it spent too much time on the back of trucks (immobilised), but the Bee-Emm was a pure class act. Regrets, I've had a few!
