One unique wagon I liked was the Sigma high roof - something unique for our market. The first Magna wagon was pretty neat looking too and more useful than the Commodore wagon of the time. Having said that my all time favourite wasn't really a wagon and wasn't Australian despite being assembled in Brisbane: The full size Jeep Cherokee. I owned one for about 15 years with a AMC 360 V8, magnificent thing you could fit 3/4 a ton of firewood in the back with the seat folded forward. Never did any better than 25L/100Km on fuel though. More interesting was the 5 speed, 6 cylinder "Sportsman".
I reckon Brooks Stevens' ground-breaking Jeep Wagoneer/Cherokee qualifies as a station wagon smackeyacky, because that's what it really was - but with the added versatility of all-wheel drive. It started a revolution in comfortable all-terrain travel.
