Talking of Anglo-American alliances, I guess somebody should reference Sydney Allard and his somewhat 'as pretty and muscular as a bulldog' road cars of the 1950s and prior ... I hadn't been aware of his cars - regardless of LeMans pedigree - until I saw one as a cover car on Classic Cars magazine in the early 1990s ... and a bit like the Bentley 'ute' referred to by Mark Oastler, the car happened to be an Allard P2 Safari estate, one of only ten produced, all with classic woody body effect ... these Allards featured Ford "flathead" V8 powerplants, but the company also used other American V8s during in its short commercial life, notably 331ci Cadillac V8 engines. From a quick bit of Googling, it would appear that only four of these estate cars survive, two of which are pictured below ...
