I wonder if the Premier would have had as much lustre if Holden had stuck with the name they originally devised: Super Special. Internal Holden documents that I have seen first reference the Super Special in August 1961, so I speculate that it was a late addition to the EJ line up. Did Holden get some advanced information about a possible luxury Falcon Futura to be launched in Australia, after the American debut in 1961? These images are from Holden's files and were part of an information pack that was compiled for GM Chairman Fred Donner who visited Melbourne in early April 1962. Note the Super Special badges on this pre-production EJ. After he left it was called “Premier”.
