Speaking of quadrants - when BMC offered the Borg-Warner 35 in their Farina bodied cars, the British came up with something that looked like something you'd find in a steam engine - no thought of how it might appeal to the end user. The Australians redesigned the quadrant for the Austin Freeway and Wolseley 24/80 which looked neat, modern and more in the driver's eye than something attached to the side of the column like the UK version. Just another small example of Aussie ingenuity as to how things had to be changed to suit our market.....
