One of my aunts wanted to trade her 1946 Standard Eight Tourer in on a new Hillman Minx in 1949. The salesman must have been fairly sharp, because he traded her up into a Sunbeam Talbot 80. It had an OHV version of the 1185 cc Minx side valve engine, which had to haul around 23cwt of heavy metal body on a chassis and leather, but no wood. The 90 fared better with 1944 and then 2267cc ohv versions of the Humber Hawk side valve engine. How Stirling Moss did it all in the Monte Carlo Rallies is not short of amazing. My 1952 90 Mk II and EJ Holden had exactly the same engine size, but the Holden was 150 kgs lighter.
