Happy New Year, Mark. I think you might be a little optimistic in generating action with this topic, but it does open up the subject of options to the V8 Supercar juggernaut. I love the idea of a comprehensive grid, both in numbers and variety, but the 12 Hour event in February is looking to be an exotics fest (twenty GT3 cars in Class A and fifteen GT3 cars in Class B), with five other classes in the mix accounting for the remaining twenty entries. The event certainly doesn't mimic what it was in the 1990's, in that this is no production series touring car race ... I went along to the 1992 James Hardie 12 hour to cheer along Allan Grice and Brad Jones in the Akubra team Holden ute, and as hard as it might be to recall, the ol' Holden ute had only just recently been released in Commodore form after the death of WB back in 1984. I think the 2014 event will be exciting, but it will be most appreciated by fans of exotic cars and LeMans sports car style racing ... there's virtually nothing in it to spoil fans of traditional touring car racing, but if you're a Ford fan and concerned about the company's ongoing involvement in Australian motor racing, you'll want to check out Ryan McLeod's three Racer Industries entries ... Ford Focus V8 GTC cars built in Australia by Pace Innovations, the same guys who put together the COTF V8 Supercars ... the concept has already found homes abroad in South Africa and New Zealand :
