I would say there were GT cars around before the Aurelia - if not the Alfa 6C 1750 GT the Bentley Blue Train Speed Six epitomises long-distance high-speed touring, racing the train back from Cannes to London. My take is Australians are more practical/pragmatic in preferring 4-door sedans instead of coupes compared to the US market. So many things seem to have gotten overstated in the Australian market too, not to take away from the clever marketing & product planning of Ford Australia. I wonder what the British reaction to the 4-door Cortina was? (if I'm correct in thinking they didn't have it there) I'm not so sure there was any real difference between the Aussie ZA Fairlane and US equivalent apart from the dashboard & front end hanging panels?
