Amazing what the passing of 30 years can do in changing people's perceptions of certain models! This car copped plenty of criticism when it was launched, mainly aimed at its ungainly appearance which was largely dictated by TWR and a UK wind tunnel. Aesthetic appeal was only a secondary consideration. I think it's that uncompromising approach to its racing program that makes it such an appealing 'homologation special' today. The fact that it also toppled the turbos at Bathurst in 1990, in one of Holden's greatest wins, assured its future classic status.
