Back in the early 1980s l had an A9X hatch, before they were collectable and too valuable to mess with. Back then they were generally treated in a manner in keeping with their performance orientation. Toranas were being modified without any consideration for originality or their future value. People were merrily stuffing Chevy small blocks and Ford 9 inch diffs into XU1s and A9Xs and none of that seemed like a bad idea. My hatch survived that period virtually unscathed but many did not. The hatch now lives in northern NSW with an enthusiast owner who has taken on the task of undoing its 1980s "improvements". Happy days!
