Where did Essex end up? The specs look pretty wild for the time!
The Essex was painted in a sort of pink undercoat, so we eventually painted it bright red with black guards. Hand painted with I'm pretty sure it would have been house paint... The seats were recovered in super-phosphate bags opened out, which was a perfect fit and good for grubby boys and sheep dogs. It was pretty unreliable, hard to crank start as we never had the money to buy a good battery for it. As can be seen, the tyres were hardly legal. One lesson I learnt was how to get it out of a bog when it was sitting on its floor and wouldn't start. We gave it away to a young bloke who said he would restore it, but we never heard from him again. The only thing remaining apart from the odd photo is the Victorian log book. Laid up during the war, it was re-registered in 1945.
