TRAX Model Car Reviews: Winter 2023

By Shannons - 26 July 2023

1980 Ford FC LTD

The Ford FC LTD ushered in a new European styling theme that was based on the XD Falcon. Gone were the chrome bumpers and American inspired styling of earlier models. The FC LTD offered the potent 351 cubic inch V8 and featured 4 wheel disc brakes and a spacious luxury interior. The long wheelbase LTD was now shared with the ZJ Fairlane whereas previous LTDs had a longer wheelbase. Rear legroom was still generous though and the additional side window in the C pillar provided an airy feel to the interior. Trax has very nicely captured these unique Australian luxury Fords in 1/43rd scale. In addition to the standard model you can also buy the special edition Cartier – a model inspired by Ford’s Lincoln division - that was part of their Designer Series cars. Like the original, these cars are exclusive – so secure yours today while stocks last!

1975 Holden HJ Sandman Ute

The HJ was the first styling update of the popular HQ series – featuring a more squared off frontal styling treatment. The HJ Sandman was offered in ute or panel van guise and proved to be very popular for those who wanted a bit more style in their workhorse. Trax has re-produced the ute version in 1/43rd scale, complete with paint black out treatment, Holden styled steel wheels and the decal package that helped set the Sandman apart. Make sure you grab one of these iconic models while stocks last!

1977 Chrysler CL Drifter Ute

To provide an additional level of pizzaz to their ute and van line up, Chrysler Australia offered the Drifter model. Designed to compete with the Holden Sandman, this model featured a high impact striping treatment to make sure your workhorse or surfing transport stood out from the crowd. Trax has produced this cool piece of Aussie Mopar history in 1/43rd scale and there are a choice of colours – yellow, white or orange. Secure your examples while you can!

1977 Holden LX Torana – John Bowe Race Car

Bathurst winning champion and well known racer John Bowe has enthralled motorsport fans for decades. Now, Trax has reproduced his historic racing LX Torana in 1/43rd scale. Finished in bright yellow and blue, Trax has included all the details you’d expect of this classic machine, with comprehensive decals, race wheels and more. Race to get yours today!

1988 Ford KE Laser TX3

The KE Laser was a very popular small Ford, built in the old Homebush plant in NSW. The KE was affectionately known as the “bubble” and offered modern styling and good performance. Trax has released this very cool TX3 sports model, that these days is something of an emerging classic amongst fans of the blue oval. Featuring a roof top spoiler and the characteristic quad headlight treatment that would become popular on later XR Falcons, Trax has really captured the charm of this iconic little car in 1/43rd scale. These will sell fast so get yours while you can!

1975 Chrysler VK Charger – NSW Highway Patrol

The VK series Chryslers were offered in 1975 and 1976. One aspect that was particularly noteworthy for the VK was the option across the range of the 360 cubic inch V8. Previously reserved for the luxury Chrysler by Chrysler, this engine had stump pulling torque. As a result, it provided plenty of motive power for the NSW Highway Patrol when they selected the Charger coupe for police duties. These days, survivors are few and far between , so why not make it easy on yourself by securing one of Trax’s 1/43rd scale replicas - complete with police markings. Apprehend yours today!

1978 Holden HZ One Tonner

We often don’t think of the One Tonner as being available along with the updated HZ range as the styling retained the same look as when it was launched in 1971 with the HQ series. These very rugged Holdens were the workhorses of Australia – especially popular with builders and other tradespeople who wanted a heavy duty machine. Trax has reproduced this model beautifully in 1/43rd scale, with alloy tray and all the detail you would expect. Load up with yours while stocks last!

1976 Leyland Moon Mini

Commissioned by Leyland Australia for the 1976 Melbourne and Sydney motor shows, this spectacular little car featured a veritable galaxy of planets and moons on its custom paintwork. Unfortunately, once the show circuit duties were over, the car was re-painted and sold. Luckily, Trax has kept this little piece of automotive history alive in 1/43rdscale. Get your example while you can. We are sure you’ll agree - it is out of this world!

1988-91 Holden VN SS Commodore

As part of the new, larger VN Commodore series released in 1988, Holden offered a performance variant in the form of the SS model. Featuring a fuel injected 5 litre V8, the SS was very popular, Offered initially in Atlas Grey or Phoenix Red, the car was later offered in White. Trax has done an excellent job in re-creating this performance Holden in 1/43rd scale. Our advice – buy all 3 colours!
