- Large crowd and full quota of telephone bidders drives strong sales
- Excellent 88 per cent clearance rate
- High quality Classic motorcycles bring good prices

Classic motorcycles, led by five Harley-Davidsons, helped drive Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on Monday September 12 to a strong sales result, with an excellent 88 per cent clearance rate of all vehicles.

The standout motorcycle sale was the $45,500 paid for a highly sought-after, restored circa1951 Vincent motorcycle while a very collectible 1925 model Harley-Davidson JE Model 1000cc in superb condition brought $35,500.

Other top two-wheel sales included $14,000 realised by a 1924 Harley-Davidson 1200cc V-Twin Board Track Racer replica, $10,000 paid for a 1928 Harley-Davidson J Model with a sidecar frame only and $8,000 for a 1930 Harley-Davidson C Model 500cc Single in 'project' condition.

Supported by this result, Shannons plan to offer more classic Harley-Davidsons at its November Melbourne Summer Auction.

Amongst the quality Australian Muscle Cars on offer, a largely-original 1969 Falcon XW GT-HO Phase I sedan that had been in the hands of its vendor since 1983 sold comfortably above its pre-sale estimate for $83,000, while a 1973 Ford Falcon XA GT 'RPO 83' brought $64,500.

Other interesting vehicle sales included a 1962 Jaguar Mk2 3.8 'Improved Saloon' that brought $65,000, and a 1927 Chrysler 60 Tourer that went for $19,000.

Replicas were also in demand, with a left hand drive 1965 Mustang GT350 replica selling for $49,000, a 1997 'Cobra' Roadster making $32,500, a 1932 right hand drive Ford Hot Rod Roadster Utility replica bringing $32,250 and a 1971 Ford XY 'GT Replica' Utility going for $23,000.

No reserve vehicles also sold well, with a right hand drive 1958 Dodge Custom Royal Lancer Coupe almost doubling its pre-sale estimate to sell for $36,500, a 1967 Jaguar E-Type 4.2 Series 1 2+2 'Project' Coupe going for $23,000, a very low kilometre 1988 Citroen 2CV Charleston sedan bringing $18,000 and a 1927 Morris Cowley Van that appeared as a prop in the television series 'The Sullivans' selling for $12,000.
