History
Ordered from Beasley n Bruce Braddon ACT by my Dad Peter in July 1972 we waited over 3 months to receive delivery of the Optioned up HQ. During the wait we received a letter from GMH stating the color option we selected was not offered as an option ie Chateau Mauve with Beige Interior, we asked the Local Dealer to advise GMH that we were goin to buy a Ford as they had this color combination available, Within a few weeks we received advice that GHM was now going to offer this color combination as an option after our request, so this was the First HQ World Wide to have this color combination, we were thrilled, as it was only available with either White or Black Interiors
The car has been continuously registered since then, In about 1985 the car was regoed in my name instead of dads name, the car has travelled over 800 Thousand Kilometres so far. the original motor was reconditioned at 500k, coz of a broken top ring on #8 cylinder was fouling the plug when givin her a boot full of throttle, but she still had plenty of power n revs, The original Aussie Depress 4 Speed lasted longer than the motor, ended its life with broken teeth on 2nd gear also the synrocs were totally worn on mainly 2nd n 1st gear. The original Salisbury diff is still going strong although the clutches are a bit noisy in the LSD, this HQ has really coped a flogging all its life, spinning the wheels in 1st n 2nd n reving to 6000 rpm without a miss or hesitation, the only thing unreliable with the motor has been the cam lobes wearing down taking out the lifters as well, I'm currently on the 4th cam, n I think its on its way out again
I have only ever seen 1 other HQ in this color combination, that was abt 20 year ago on the Gold Coast also seen 2 or 3 Toranas in this color combo through the years,
I would be very interested in hearing from you if you have one or know anyone that has a HQ in this color combo, as I think it may be the Only One Left
Cheers Chris
