Memories
My Triumph Herald white and British racing green with white walled Tyers was a sporty little two door Coupe given to me by my father on my 18th Birthday. We called it Tubby Triumph- it took my friends and I to parties, the drive in and once was driven into a lake by accident, it kept on going!
Tubby had idiocincracies first was the starter motor, it often needed a turn with a spammer. The spanned was a chrome plated one presented to me by my father with the car, my father owned a garage and thought the spanned was a better option than going to the expense of fixing it properly. The starter motor caused very embarrassing moments for me as the car like inadvertently stalling in the Main Street of my home town on Saturday morning . I would have to get out to unclip the side bonnet clips which then brought the whole front of the car up to get to the starter motor, you can imagine how uncool that was at 18 yrs old.
Once three huntsmen found their way into the car which really freaked me out, I remember emptying a whole can of fly spray into it and shutting it up for a week.
Aside from the starter motor sometimes for no good reason the horn would start blowing, this was also v. uncool and it took some time for me to figure out disconnecting the battery would stop it. Until then I just used to leave it on the side of the road blaring and run away.
I have fond memories of my youth the laughs and the friends who were very much connected to my lovely little Triumph Herald.
