Australian Karting Championships Round 2 – Albury Vic

After a very positive start to the season we headed north to Albury for Rd 2 of the AKC.

Qualifying; With only .6 of a second covering the field, it’s important to get in the right group, unfortunately for Emerson in the Shannons rocket, another driver crashed in front of him which was a major set back to his plans. So 13th was where he would start the first 2 heats.

Heat 1; Emerson made a pretty good start but just as he turned into the first corner another ambitious driver flew over the top of the 76 tearing off most of the radiator, needless to say the kart wasn’t at its best. Emerson was very lucky not to blow the motor eventually bringing the kart home in 13th.

Heat 2; Light rain was falling for heat 2, Emerson made a great start & had moved up to 8th, when he made an uncharacteristic mistake ending in a DNF.

Heat 3;This was turning out to be a weekend to forget, engine failed, another DNF.

Heat 4; After heat 3 we changed the engine and after 2 DNF’s we started out of P19. A flying start moving up a few spots on lap 1, and then the Shannons driver settled in to the race picking off a number of positions bringing it home in 10th, finally just happy to finish a race.

Final; Never speak too soon, after everything Emerson had to endure this weekend he never got to complete a lap of the final after another engine failure.

Motorsport can be a very cruel game sometimes but you just have to pick yourself up and head to the next meeting.
