Winter has arrived with a vengeance and the weather forecast for Sunday the 26th of June focused on the words zero and minus something or another, and there may be a possibility of snow at the mountains.  Sunday morning arrived in a dull grey squall of fog and drizzle, just the day for a fire, a pot of soup and a good book.

However, it was not to be, today we would be enjoying a Sunday drive because three weeks earlier we had accepted an invitation to attend the market day held at the Bunya Mountains.

After a look around the market at all the interesting craft and local produce on offer, we  retreated to the warmth of Poppy's Restaurant to enjoy a great coffee and sweet treat for morning tea.

Although the day was bleak, the snow did not arrive.  It was great to see so many young families out enjoying the walking tracks or simply relaxing and enjoying the antics of the Pademelon's which were happily trimming the grassed areas.    It is still possible to feed the Rossella's, you simply need to check the feeding times on the wall sign near the general store and purchase a bag of bird seed.  To ensure the continued health and well-being of the bird life It is important to adhere to the request and only feed the birds at the correct time, with the nutritionally balanced seed provided.      A visit to the Bunya Mountains Natural History Association displays at Cedarvale cabin was most interesting and provided a look at how early settlers lived and worked. With the arrival of our fellow diners, it was time for lunch at the superb Lyrics RestaurantThe Kratzman family operate ELZ Bistro and Lyrics Restaurant, a venue which is so popular that a booking in advance is advised. We completed our day out with a detour via Maidenwell and stopped in for a coffee with friends to complete the day.  A bleak day was turned around and became a most enjoyable Sunday Drive.See More Blogs at The Australian Heritage Motor Museum Blog Page
